Rock Creek has a lot of ministries for a church its size. Two things are worth noting about them that set us apart from a lot of other churches.
The first is that we try to balance the number of internal ministries we have with our desire to be part of the community around us. Essentially, we ask: "How much church is enough?" Our understanding of the church is that it is an organism with an inner life that keeps it vibrant so that it can give life away to others. Church does not become alternative life we step out of the world to live, but a catalyst for preparing and sending us back out into our lives to reveal Jesus.
The second thing is that we believe doing ministry with other Christians is one of the best ways there is to be challenged to grow. In many churches, the Sunday school classroom is viewed as the only way to make disciples. Once you're suitably ready and mature, then you can go do something useful. We think there is a better way. Not only must you study God's word, but you have to jump right in and start serving. As you do, you'll grow through relationships, experiences and realizations about yourself and God that could never come through just participating in Bible studies.
So take a look and see what speaks to you. Our suggestion to those who consider themselves to be participants in the Rock Creek Church community is that they engage in one internal and one external ministry (like one of the Acts of Care ministries). Did we mention they're also fun and a great way to get to know people? What are you waiting for!?
